Example plasterer job briefs
- Re-plaster a back-bedroom wall where old lime plaster is crumbling, after the plasterer advises on a suitable method.
- Skim all walls and ceiling in a small box room before redecorating.
- Dryline an external wall in a converted garage with insulated plasterboard.
Examples to help you write your own post — not past jobs or promises of availability.
Access and logistics to mention
- Is the property older, and do you know whether walls are solid brick or cavity? Mention it — it changes which plaster is suitable.
- Is off-road parking available, or will materials be carried from the street?
- Are there any days or times when work can't happen, such as school runs or shift work at home?

Scope pitfalls to agree up front
- Older solid walls may need breathable materials; ask the plasterer what they suggest and why.
- Insulated drylining reduces room size slightly and may mean moving sockets and window boards.
Comparing quotes
- Is it a skim over sound plaster, or a full re-plaster with removal of old material? These are priced very differently.
- Textured coatings (such as artex) may contain asbestos. They should be surveyed or tested by a competent person before anyone disturbs them, and the safe method that results should be quoted separately.
- Who protects floors and removes waste, and is waste removal included?
- How long before the plaster is dry enough to mist-coat and paint?
Asbestos guidance: HSE asbestos essentials.
